10 Tips to improve digestion

Digestion is one core body process which if disturbed can create havoc in your life. If the food we consume is not absorbed and digested properly, it can lead to many problems which will greatly impact your overall health and well being.

It is essential that you take care of your digestive system and only consume food that do not play with your digestion.

Below are some tips and ideas for better digestive health:

1. Stay hydrated:

I cannot emphasize enough about the benefits of staying hydrated. I have written a whole article regarding top foods that keep you hydrated. Water is absorbed by fiber in your diet which makes your stools softer. Nutrients are absorbed easily and fast together with water.

2. Eat a fiber rich diet:

A diet high in fiber absorbs water easily, resulting in good stool movement. If your diet is rich in fiber foods like whole grains, salads, fruits and legumes then you’ll never suffer from constipation. Fiber rich diet ensures that your gastrointestinal tract works smoothly and nutrients are absorbed fully.

3. Exercise regularly:

Simple yet regular excercises help to limit constipation by improved digestion.

4. Chew your food properly:

As soon as you put food inside your mouth, it’s mixed with saliva. The more you chew your food, lesser is the burden on the stomach.

5. Probiotics:

6. Regular detox:

A regular detox in the form of fasting or gentle diet can work wonders for your digestion. It can help you to flush out body toxins and reboot your digestion.

7. Manage stress:

Stress can disrupt not only your mind but also your digestion. Focus on Yoga, Meditation and relaxation techniques once a day to reduce your stress levels.

8. Eat freshly-cooked foods:

9. Avoid foods which cause indigestion:

Consume food as per your body type. Sometimes we see people who are able to tolerate spicy food easily and some people cannot. Hence consume simple food to avoid irritations due to spices. Always eat seasonal fruits and vegetables. Out of season fruits have been kept in artificial temperature and conditions, you cannot be sure of their nutritional value and whether they will get digested properly or not.

10. Never eat fruits after a carbohydrate or fat:

Carbohydrate and fats take a longer time to digest than fruits. If you eat a fruit after eating a meal rich in carbs and fat, then fruits will be sitting idle putrefying creating constipation, bloating and gas.
Better to eat your fruit 30 minutes before a meal or an hour after.
